shops in Chittranjan Park
Even though i had thought of including the market of CR Park in my last post, I realized it would be unjustified. The variety and essence of the markets here are so enormous that I have decided to devote a few more posts to the various kinds of shops here.
The DVD Shop
One of the most prized shops =at the Chittranjan Park market that took my attention was the DVD outlet, which had almost all the best collection of Bengali DVDs , VCDs and Music CDs. The shop really has a very good collection of Bengali collection of popular Rabindra Sangeet albums. The shop is a treat for any Bengali music and movie lover.

The Singing Tree
"Singing Tree is the very iconic place for the resident of Chittranjan Park Market. In the evening people came to this place, and they used to chat with their friends with having a cup of tea. The "Singing Tree" Tea shop was established in the year of 90's under a tree. The place is decorated with beautiful colors with pleasant music all time with a roadside sitting place. In summer they have the fan facilities for cooling the area. Now the Tea shop 26 years old and has got "President Award" for one of the oldest tea shop in Chittranjan Park.
The Country Ballad Artist
I was about to return, when a popular "Baul song" ( Bengali country ballad- folk artist) and the very familiar tune of the near to extinct musical instrument "Ektara" in one hand and the long stick on the other.
The Country Ballad Singer
I came to know that he had traveled the way from the Nadia District of Bengal to have a visit to his relatives house in Delhi. He too was a traveller like you all. And yet he was entertaining us all with his unselfish passion for the Baul Song. Unfortunately Baul artist like this old man have to earn their living by asking for alms. They sing the ballads with their heart content - entertain stressed out urban souls like us and suddenly disappear to heir roots..
On next day's visit, I found another interesting story of "Dhaki" "Dhak is a musical instrument which is used mainly in "Durga puja" (goddess Durga") and other worship festivals. This man was trying earn some money by showing his talent in the market place in the evening when the market was overcrowded.
